String Topology and Homological Algebra

My Ph.D. research under the supervision of my advisor, Ralph Cohen, focussed on expressing the BV algebra structure of the string topology of a closed manifold in terms of the Hochschild homology and cohomology of its based loop space.

Generalized Fast Fourier Transforms

For my B.S. in Mathematics at Harvey Mudd, I conducted a year-long research project on decimation-in-frequency fast Fourier transforms for the symmetric group. During this project, I presented a written thesis to the department faculty and gave presentations both within the HMC community and at the 2005 AMS-MAA Joint Meetings in Atlanta, GA.

Mathematical Contest in Modeling

While at Harvey Mudd, I participated in the COMAP Mathematical Contest in Modeling in 2003, 2004, and 2005. Work with Steven Avery and Eric Harley on modeling fingerprint structure in 2004 received an Outstanding prize, and was selected for publication in The UMAP Journal and for presentation at the 2004 SIAM Annual Meeting in Portland, OR.

Calculus Notes

Gail Nord, John Nord, J. Colin Hill, and I have co-authored several articles on classroom activities in discrete mathematics and calculus, in journals such as The College Mathematics Journal and NCTM Math Teacher.
